Smooth jams

One thing that helps me to relax after a long day or to mentally prepare for the day in the morning before work is music. Lately I’ve found myself listening to music I heard a lot as a child. For some strange reason it’s really calming for me. I found a classic and you can listen to it here. I don’t know why but I really like this song and it’s been on repeat all week. It’s the definition of Christian R&B and it’s a great jam.

Weekend travels

One thing that has been nice about the past two weekends is that I’ve had the chance to travel a bit. Weekend travel is fun but tends to be rushed because you don’t have a lot of time to recover from the work week before you have to be at work again on Monday morning. While there’s plenty to do on the central California coast, it’s always nice to have a change of scenery. I had my first plane ride ten years ago and I’ve been addicted ever since. There’s something intriguing and cool about takeoff and flying in the clouds where you have a totally different perspective. Next year I plan to travel more as the majority of my time this year was spent in a cubicle on the third floor of an office building in metro Atlanta. Maybe even get a job that involves frequent travel. It’s so important to see the world and while it would be nice to have a significant other as a traveling partner, I’m fine with exploring alone. Time to plan some trips.

Cable and my new favorite binge watching show

When I moved into my new apartment I did something that I had always wanted to do—got cable television. Now granted I don’t have enough channels to even remotely keep up with things in the television world, but it’s been a decent deal. Of course my cable use has been supplemented with my TV antenna, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Videos so I really don’t miss a lot. I rarely watch things in real time but I’ve come to love the DVR. It’s so amazingly convenient to watch things when you want to. I’ve found a new favorite show to DVR–Modern Family. About 120 episodes worth if we’re being specific. It’s an awesome show about the daily life experiences and challenges of families. It’s not really a comedy but there’s this dry ironic underlying humor vibe that I like. Needless to say, watching an episode or so after a long day at work has been great for decompressing after a long frustrating day at work. It’s comfortable and doesn’t require a lot of thought…Self care right?

Water thoughts

I’ve wrote quite a few times about how much I like to travel. One thing that I enjoy as a part of my travels is going to the beach or a body of water. I remember once driving with a friend who explained that how they liked bodies of water as well. Sitting on a beach can be one of the most relaxing experiences. There’s something comforting about a nice sea breeze, sunshine, and a good book. Lakes and rivers are a close second to the ocean. It’s all about having an environment of peace. The getting away from it all. The escaping the monotony of daily life and enjoying the simple things like a large body of water away from what you may be used to. Cultivating a habit of enjoying the simple things in life is rewarding because it reminds you to smell the roses. Sitting by a body of water can make you contemplate your life in detail in an environment that is positive. It’s pretty hard NOT to relax when you’re there. At least for a few moments.
